4. The 2 professors
I spoke with Dr. Kent Syverson of the Geology Dept. and Dr. Fred Kolb of the Economics Dept. here at UWEC. Professor Syverson talked about how students now are much more grade oriented in their studies and are not focused on actually learning the subject. He said society is putting too much pressure on students to do well in terms of getting a good grade, that when students now get C’s and B’s people assume they are doing poorly. Dr. Kolb brought actually brought up a similar point. He said students now are so worried about receiving that A that they tend to over study and cram, and not actually retain a lot of the material. He would much rather see someone struggle slightly but pick up on most of the key points eventually and earn a B-, than have a student learn nothing and just study a ton and get an A.
